Although unmarked, this comes from one of the 18th Century German States that supplied MERCENARIES to assist King George III's Red Coats in putting down the REBELS in the American War for Independence. Commonly referred to as “Hessians”, 65% came from the German states of Hesse-Kassel and Hesse-Hanau. Known for their discipline and martial prowess, around 30,000 Germans fought for the British during war, comprising a quarter of British forces.
The pistol is fully IRON mounted with an unsupported powder Pan to the lock, which is currently unmarked. Heavy 11 1/2" barrel of approximately .75" Bore. Will fire on both full and half cock, so the tumbler needs slight adjustment to easily remedy that.
